The cartoon's basic plot is basically Jones' take on The Bodyguard (1944) and Fit to be Tied (1952), whereas Jerry saves Spike, the dog becomes his protector, and Tom tries to find a workaround to catch that mouse. All Jerry has to do is just whistle for him.
