In oposite direction to the US, Brazil raises interest rates

On Wednesday (18), the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom, in Portuguese) of the Brazilian Central Bank decided to raise the basic interest rate for the national economy – known in Portuguese as Selic – from 10.5% per year to 10.75% per year. The increase was the first recorded since August 2022.
